CONGRATULATIONS!  NEIL J. MACPHEE AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

AWARDED TO: NANCY LARIVIERE
On NOVEMBER 18, 2015

Registered Early Childhood Educator -Graduate of St. Clair College June 16, 2000

Nancy was hired as an RECE supply with Sundowners on January 10, 2013 and became a permanent part time employee in March 2013.

Nancy offers an outstanding program for the children where ever she is. Currently, Nancy is working with school age children at Tecumseh Vista where they are exploring “around the world”. No matter where she is, Nancy manages to engage the children by following their lead and expanding on their interests.

Last school year when Nancy was assigned to the Forest Glade site, she did just that. What started out with a few children using “curtains as capes” turned into a project in which the children created, designed and manufactured their own fashion clothing. Children designed and made patterns, cut fabric and sewed all their own individual creations using real sewing machines, and needle and thread…boys included. They made hats from felt, colourful shorts and shirts, props like surf boards, and magic wands. After all this the children decided they wanted to show off all their wonderful creations and thought that a fashion show would be the way to do it. So “Mode Fantastique Fashion Show” was launched. Invitations went out to family and friends and the stage was set. What the audience found was a “runway stage” with full production lighting, specially selected music, camera and video crew, refreshments, beautiful decorations and seating, all made and designed by the children. Behind the scenes Nancy and her colleagues worked for hours on set construction, contacting community volunteers to do hair and makeup and bringing in many props from home. It was a wonderful experience for everyone.

According to her co-workers Nancy supports children in many areas of their development whether it is their fine motor skills, social emotional, physical and imagination, she offers many exciting activities and opportunities to meet the needs of each child in her program.

Nancy demonstrates strong leadership skills when interacting with the children, parents and her colleagues. She attends and takes advantage of professional development opportunities being offered and has embraced the concept of “How Does Learning Happen” Ontario’s new pedagogy for the Early Years.

Nancy is very hard-working and takes time out of her own day to ensure that she is able to offer the best program. She is very positive, welcoming, fun, enthusiastic, and a high energy person who always brings her best self forward. Nancy is an outstanding and committed RECE and an asset to the Sundowners organization. Please join me in congratulating this year’s Neil J. MacPhee Award of Excellence recipient Nancy Lariviere.
